I am a lover of Yoga, Ayurveda and Exercise living in Charlottesville, Virginia. I was born and raised in a Brazilian household in the Southeast of the country, while immersed in a very active culture yet very spiritual. After studying Exercise Science in college, I left for Graduate School in the USA and it was during those years that I got to teach Hatha Yoga class for the first time. I fell deeply in love with it. It was a great joy to be able to apply the knowledge of the physical body acquired in college to go deeper into the “other bodies” and discover that we go beyond the physical level! Since then I am building and incorporating connections between Eastern and Western cultures in my own life and profession.
It was in 2007, after already teaching for 2 years, that I found my Guru and went deeper into the studies of the Yoga Science. I lived in his Ashram for 7 years, where I graduated as an Advanced Integral Yoga Hatha teacher. But more than becoming a teacher, I got to live Yoga. And that’s what he would say. If you want to be a yoga teacher, become a yogi first. During those years, Yoga became my lifestyle and I got to apply the teachings in my living.
I also became one of the trainers of the Hatha Yoga teacher training at Satchidananda Ashram–Yogaville, using my devotion for the Sadhana (spiritual practices) and love for Anatomy and Physiology to bring more conscious and equipped Hatha Yoga teachers into the world.
Right at the beginning of my journey into Yoga, I had also re-encountered Ayurveda. I say re-encountered because I remember reading a tiny book and finding everything so familiar and my heart expanding a thousand-fold in awe with the science. I then started self-studying Ayurveda knowing that I needed to build the foundation with Yoga and that one day I would be able to devote more time to it. That day came, and now I have graduated as an Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant.
While all of this was happening, I continued practicing exercise science, working in many areas of the field with my concentration being in personal training, where I could incorporate the teachings of Yoga & Ayurveda into the activities. I have been working with individuals who deal with musculoskeletal issues (such as joint and back pain and muscle fatigue), digestion issues, weight management, sleep issues, anxiety, depression, and those who just want to improve health and stay healthy so they don’t become ill!
Integral Yoga and Ayurveda have been the foundation of my actions and lifestyle and they have had a profound impact on my life. I have used both sciences to heal/manage conditions like back pain, fibromyalgia and depression. To read more about how I overcome these conditions click on these links: "How I found laughter again" and "How I overcame back pain".
I am dedicated to share the wealth of knowledge and wisdom of these sciences with those who cross my path so we can realize the power of knowing ourselves as we live in harmony with Mother Nature’s rhythms!
