All of us know that we should exercise, but few of us do it. Those who do exercise rarely integrate it into their life in a consistent way. The reason this happens I believe is that exercise is not fun. The theory that predominates is “no pain, no gain” and the belief is that in order to build up the body, you must first break it down. So, we push our bodies to exhaustion and what used to be a lot of fun in our childhood is now a work-out.
We then listen to music, watch TV and do whatever we can to distract our minds from our body while we work out. Unfortunately, when we disconnect our minds from our bodies we distract ourselves from how exhausted and miserable our bodies feel!
But there is an alternative approach. Improved mind-body integration is the secret for a fun, safe fitness program that can last for the rest of our lives.
