Keep Your Tissues Hydrated with This Ayurveda Popsicle Recipe

During the summer’s last month, we experience high heat accumulation. Just like the earth, water, and the atmosphere hold on to the heat, and continue to accumulate it incrementally over the course of summer, the same happens to our bodies. Also, our body senses the season transition coming, and it slurps every drop of fat from our blood to insulate the skin for cooler times ahead. This thins the blood making it harder for it to hold onto moisture.

Altogether, it creates dryness internally. That’s why it is not uncommon that we feel our body wrinkling up like a prune. In the brain, we may feel frazzled and anxious. Therefore, the last month of summer is a critical month to prepare our bodies for the fall season.

A combination of appropriate diet, herb usage, and lifestyle modifications will allow us to stay balanced and vibrant during the transition to fall. In terms of diet, it should include richer, sweeter, more moist foods. With this adaptation we will stay hydrated, countering the dryness of the month, and it will also help build a layer of insulating fat in preparation for the winter.

By taking a little time this month to adjust our diet, we will arrive thriving in the fall, instead of feeling weary or edgy. To inspire you to move with the flow of the season, relax, and soak up the rest of the summer sunshine, here is my Lime Peach Popsicle Recipe.

Fresh peaches and lime are a great way to counteract dryness. Their sourness makes the mouth and the digestive tract juicy, softening the stools and encouraging easy elimination. Peaches are slightly heating, so be careful not to overdo it! The aggravating substance is mostly in the skin, so it can be removed by peeling it. The spicy sweet nature of cardamom helps regulate sugar metabolism, preventing mucus formation.

Lime Peach Popsicle

INGREDIENTS:

5 juicy peaches

Juice of two limes

A pinch of cardamom

2 Tbsp maple syrup

½ cup water

A bunch of mint leaves (optional)

PREPARATION:

  1. Peel the peaches (this will remove the substance that aggravates pitta) and coarsely chop them.

  2. Add all ingredients to a blender. If you are using mint, you can add it here or after blending.

  3. Puree until whipped and smooth.

  4. Pour mixture into popsicle molds and freeze overnight. Have them ready to go for the next day!

Damage control tip! Eat popsicles and cold treats like ice cream at the hottest time of the day and on an empty stomach. This way you are not freezing your belly and assaulting your agni. Doing this will support your digestion when you go a little naughty = )

Bom apetite!
